Nye County Road Department placed a new four-way stop recently in Pahrump with two more coming in the next week.
Reader board signs are in place to announce an upcoming traffic change at the intersections of Wilson Road at Lola Lane near Desert View Hospital, and Manse Road at Homestead Road. The work is expected to be completed by July 1.
The County already advertised and installed 4-way-stop signs at the intersection of Blagg Road and Mesquite Avenue.
Public Works received several requests from the Sheriff's Office and the General Public about installing a four-way-stop. The department obtained detailed crash data from the Sheriff's Office and asked consultant Charles Abbott Associates to see if the intersections warranted installing 4-way stops.
The report, dated May 2019, recommended 4-way-stops at all three of the intersections based largely on traffic and speed data collected. However, crash data also showed many would have been correctable with an all-way stop.
For Blagg and Mesquite, collision data from the Sheriff's Office showed that since June 2015, six of the eight of the crashes at that intersection were correctable with an all-way stop. Three of those crashes involved injuries.
For Wilson and Lola, the collision data showed 14 of the 17 crashes were correctable with the all-way stop. Seven of the 14 correctable crashed involved injuries.
Since 2016, eight of the 13 reported crashes at Homestead and Manse resulted in injury.
