The Nye County Animal Shelter provides care for lost and impounded animals until owners reclaim or the animal becomes available for adoption, rescue, or euthanasia. We gratefully welcome public volunteers to help care for the animals needs while the animals are at the shelter. Please consider volunteering by filling out the application and turn in the forms at the shelter.

Dog Adoption Fee
Including spay and/or neuter/DA2PP vaccination/Rabies vaccination $85.00
+ $25.00 refundable deposit when animal is brought back to be sterilized

Dog adoption fee for animal to be taken by adoptee to veterinarian of choice

Approved 501c3 Animal Rescue Organizations - Countywide
(Rescue operations must be approved for adoptions and will be inspected for compliance on an annual basis by an Animal Control Officer. Proof of current 501c3 status for each rescue operation must be on file with Nye County)
Note: The general public will have an adequate time frame to adopt animals before they will be considered available to the 501c3 organizations.

*Documentation of sterilization and rabies vaccination must be submitted to the location of the adoption within 30 days of adoption or when animal is of the required age and/or condition (example: puppies, dogs giving birth recently, etc.) to ensure the procedures will be completed.
We provide animal licensing as follows:
License fee each pet 1 year 3 years
Altered $8.00 $15.00
Unaltered $20.00 $45.00
Stray animals picked up by Animal Control or left at the shelter have impound fees that must be paid by the owner when the animal is reclaimed.
1st offense: $50.00* plus license fee if not licensed
2nd offense: $75.00* plus license fee if not licensed
3rd offense: $100.00* plus license fee if not licensed
4th offense: $150.00* plus license fee if not licensed
(*plus $10.00 per day for boarding)
Euthanasia service is available to the public for their domestic pets by appointment only. Please call 775-751-7020 to schedule an appointment. Available times are on Tuesday through Saturday from 8:15 am to 9:30 am.
Cost is $20.
